There was a time when director R.K. Selvamani and producer Ibrahim Rowther joined hands to produce many successful films. Though the industry at that time was flooded with romantic plots and family melodrama, Selvamani distinctly differed in his style and chose action-oriented stories. His exclusivity remained his strength producing a string of successful films such as Kshatriyan, Pulan Visaranai, etc. What is so special about the director's presentation?
In Selvamani's themes, the main characters (mostly villains!) were designed closely in association with the threatening real-life ones and the most issues were based on hot, topical affairs in the social and political arena. His strategy worked out well. When all the news in print took life on the big screen, the theatrical artifice and the dramatics certainly lured audiences of all genres. The result was -- instant success! One of the main reasons could also have been that Selvamani's films also provided a reprieve for the tired audiences who got bored watching the stereotypes and formula stuff. When his style began to gain good recognition, unfortunately, for some unknown reason, the skilled story-teller/ director took a long sabbatical and vanished from the film scene.
Nevertheless, now that he has chosen to make a comeback, Selvamani still does not want to dabble with coming-of-age stories but trusts his own, established formula. His upcoming offering is a sequel to his much-talked about Vijaykant-starrer Pulan Visaranai. The film, Pulan Visaranai 2 has Prashanth in the lead role. Karthika of Nam Naadu fame and newcomer Adeem Khan are the heroines. The villain will also be a new face.
Pulan Visaranai 2's story is set in Delhi; the first part is said to have a resemblance with Auto Shankar's case that shook the whole of Tamil Nadu a few years back. Prashanth is the police officer who digs out the truth behind terrorism and violence evoked by the criminal and finally brings him under custody.
Like all his other films, Pulan Visaranai 2 too has the focus on the leading cop; in its quest for truth and justice, the story will throw light on the dark nooks of politics and make sly references to the unlisted criminals involved. However, except the formidable resemblance between its lead characters, the link between the original version and the sequel still remains under wraps.
Hero/ protagonist Prashanth is drawn with the depth the character deserves. He has went through a tough physical regime to tone his body to suit the role. Known for his commitment and dedication, he has performed the extraordinary action bits with pure fervour to win. His heroic exuberance is expected to set the right tempo for the racy quality of the film. Prashanth is also looking forward to getting a breakthrough this film, confidently banking on Selvamani's dynamics.
Pulan Visaranai 2 is expected to release soon. Similar to the crew's sentiment, let us also hope that it will turn out to be the best and restart another golden era for the producer-director duo.
